INFAS Network Coordinator

Office Phone: (530) 752-7556

Biography:

Joanna is the National Network Coordinator for INFAS (the Inter-institutional Network for Food, Agriculture and Sustainability), a network of educators and researchers who are dedicated to food system sustainability and committed to supporting, learning from and partnering with activists in our communities. INFAS members recognize that the food system is profoundly inequitable and that institutions of higher education hold power and privilege. INFAS is committed to the development and support of food and agricultural systems that sustain the health and well-being of all people and the natural environment. At ASI she focuses on network building and engagement across the US with plans to strengthen connections within the UC System and with other California institutions. Areas of collaboration within INFAS reflect the evolving and diverse interests and capabilities of the Network. In addition to coordinating the INFAS network, Joanna coordinates the North American Arabidopsis Steering Committee, a network of volunteer, elected faculty members that engage in basic plant research, education and outreach. Joanna previously coordinated the Multinational Arabidopsis Steering Committee which engages the international plant biology community. This engagement work stems from her graduate work, completed at UC Davis, where she was awarded a PhD in genetics. Each of the networks she engages spans multiple institutions, disciplines, states, and sometimes, countries. The common thread is to provide support for faculty and institutional engagement in order to positively impact individuals and communities, from local, to state, to region, to national and international scales.
