This one-week course will bring students from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich), a top 5 university in the world for science, engineering, and technology, together with students from California universities on a tour of some of the most cutting-edge companies and initiatives that are using information technology in innovative ways to address the most pressing food system challenges, such as global food and nutrition security. During the study tour of one of the world’s most important agricultural regions (California’s Central Valley) and innovation hotspots (Silicon Valley), participants will get an up-close look at how IT innovation is disrupting the food system with promises to address the coming challenge of feeding a world population of 10 billion people. Students are expected to bring interdisciplinary perspectives, open-minds, and critical thinking.
