The Agricultural Sustainability Institute at UC Davis is a group of researchers, educators, and agricultural extension professionals working to answer big questions on how to make agriculture and food systems more sustainable - in California and beyond.
We work to ensure that California residents have access to healthy food and communities throughout California thrive.
Through partnerships with farmers, interdisciplinary research, and innovative communication, we find science-based solutions to today's biggest environmental and resource use challenges.
We are training the next generation of agricultural leaders through classroom learning and hands-on experience.

Mark Van Horn, director of the Student Farm at UC Davis was awarded the first Mark Van Horn On-Farm Educator Award, established by the Sustainable Agriculture Education Association and presented during the association’s recent biennial conference. In choosing future recipients, the association will look for them to share Mark’s passion for teaching sustainable agriculture and engaging students in the learning process.
As part of the UC Davis Book Project events, we're teaming up with students on campus to learn about student-led initiatives to improve food security on campus, and discuss the challenges ahead.
