We feature small group activities that allow children to explore, discover, and play in a garden setting.  The field trips take place in the Ecological Garden at the UC Davis Student Farm where flowers, vegetables, fruit trees, herbs and other plants grow year-round.  Students also visit the Market Garden at the Student Farm to see vegetable production in a farm setting.  Exploring the garden, farm, and surrounding habitat provides an enriching, hands-on learning experience.

Tours are designed and led by trained UC Davis student interns and reflect what’s happening in the garden at a given time and season.  While overall content and setting during each tour is similar, the specific activities will vary from day to day and from year to year.

2024: The spring tour season will run from April 2 through June 7, 2024.  We also offer four “early bird” tour slots in February and March, 2023. Spots are still available!

Nearby schools in Davis, Dixon, Esparto, West Sacramento, Winters, and Woodland are given priority in the field trip reservation process, but field trip spaces are often available for schools outside those areas as well.  Field trip content is appropriate for K-6 students.

Cost is $4.00/child, no charge for adult chaperones.   Chaperones driving personal vehicles can park on the street near the garden or in UC Davis Parking Lot 30 (payment required).

To find out more about the spring tours, download our information sheet.

We will take reservation requests starting in October of the school year for the following spring season. Requests are filled by a lottery system.  If you are interested in signing up for a tour for spring of 2024, please fill out this online registration form
