The Student Farm is hiring Lead Student Farmers (Student Assistant 3 Positions) in organic vegetable and fruit production at the Market Garden, in sustainable gardening and cut flower production at the Ecological Garden, and for food access and justice work with the Fresh Focus program.
We are looking for UC Davis students who are passionate about sustainable agriculture and just food systems, peer-mentorship, and who are dedicated to creating welcoming and inclusive learning communities. The Student Farm is dedicated to inclusive hiring practices and we encourage students from all backgrounds and majors with experience in farming, gardening, or food justice (whether at the Student Farm or other prior experience) to consider applying for these positions.
Ecological Garden Program and Sustainable Cut-Flower Program in the Ecological Garden
The Ecological Garden is a half-acre garden of flowers, vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, fruit trees, vines, and insectary plants used for teaching ecological horticulture, seed saving, and related topics. The Eco Garden is also home to our sustainably grown Flower Project, which sells bouquets of cut flowers on campus and through our Flower CSA. The Eco Garden has 4 positions in total open. Position descriptions for a (1) lead student gardener position with the Ecological Garden, (2) lead flower production (3) flower bouquet CSA lead, or (4) flower breeder and seed saving.
Fresh Focus Vegetable Donation Program
Students in Fresh Focus grow and glean produce for donation to centers on campus and local communities while learning about student food security and food justice. Our campus partners include the ASUCD Pantry, the Aggie Compass Fruit and Veggie Up program, EOP’s All pEOPle Eat program, the Nest, CLASS, CADSS and many others. We are looking for UCD Students who are passionate about food access, food justice, and interested in growing and donating food! Market Garden Organic Mixed Vegetable Farming Program
The Market Garden is a 9-acre organic farm at the Student Farm where students manage and run a CSA vegetable farm. Lead Student Farmers in the Market Garden assist with all aspects of seeding, planting, harvesting, irrigating, marketing, mentoring interns and managing the farm. Multiple positions will be available for Fall 2021, and potentially one position will be open for summer 2021.
