Green Fellowship Now Open for Students!

Green Fellowship available to fund projects exploring student-led advancement of social justice, sustainable technology, and environmental sustainability at UC Davis.


On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Whole Earth Festival grateful UC Davis alum, faculty and community members have donated money to create the Green Fellowship, which will support students advancing social justice and environmental sustainability. These donors are also supporting the advancement of the Student Living and Learning Communities (SLLC).

2018 Russell Ranch Progress Report

Russell Ranch just released their 2018 Research Report, describing the 25 research projects and findings that were conducted on the Ranch in 2018 alone. Russell Ranch researchers were excited to work with a number of UC Davis faculty, graduate students, and staff, as well as researchers from UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and UC Merced, among other institutions.

Student Farm Promotes Experiential Learning through SCOPE

The Student Collaborative Organic Plant Breeding Education (SCOPE) project is a student-led collaborative of faculty and student plant breeders working with local organic growers on improving crop varieties for organic farming systems in Northern California, with the possibility of future expansion to other regions. Using traditional, field-based plant breeding methods, new varieties of heirloom-like tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, bell peppers, pest resistant common bean, and lima bean are being developed on certified organic land at The Student Farm at UC Davis.

UC SAREP looks into local food sourcing on UC and CSU campuses

Creating online training for organic specialty crop production in California

Sonja Brodt (Coordinator of Agriculture, Resources, and Environment at UC SAREP) and Sara Riegler (UC SAREP Graduate Student Researcher) recently had the opportunity to visit and record field demonstration videos at ALBA in Salinas. The videos, all recorded in Spanish and focused on ALBA farmers\u2019 organic farming practices, will be part of a comprehensive online curriculum geared towards beginner organic farmers in California, a project in collaboration with the Organic Farming Research Foundation.

Yisrael Family Urban Farm partners with UC ANR to teach urban agriculture skills

A number of cities in California have recently updated municipal policies to facilitate urban agriculture, due to strong community interest. A team of UC Cooperative Extension farm advisers, specialists and others, including UC SAREP, are working with local partners in four California urban regions, offering a series of workshops to help urban farmers address challenges they face in zoning, soil, water access, and profitability.
