Aggies Grow Veggies is taking off!
by Stephanie Tsai (Entomology '21) and Borah Lim (International Agricultural Development '21)
So, what is Aggies Grow Veggies? 🍅🥕🥦
Aggies Grow Veggies is a movement to get more students growing their own food! By building deeper roots among our communities, we hope to make gardening more accessible, affordable, and appealing for all UC Davis students.
Our focus is to encourage emerging gardeners, bring greater diversity to garden spaces, and support student gardeners who may struggle to obtain the space and resources to establish their own garden.
What are we doing to make this happen?
Aggies Grow Veggies is hosting a virtual workshop series, curating a Youtube channel, and building an Instagram and Discord virtual gardening community.
This spring, we are offering a free, virtual 6-week workshop series for college students! These hands-on workshops will be led by Borah Lim and feature guest speakers from the Student Living and Learning Community, Student Farm employees, and other student gardeners! Here is what our workshops will offer: free container gardening garden supplies, connecting students with other student gardeners, and give a jumpstart to help new gardeners grow their first gardens
We recently launched a YouTube channel, hosted by Stephanie Tsai, to gather and learn from amazing gardeners from all over California and the world. This channel features a growing media library so student gardeners can quickly and easily find garden information, ways to garden on a budget and start the new growing season, and fun, entertaining videos for when you’d like a laugh or need some inspiration. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to be notified when we start posting original gardening content! Help us hit 100 subscribers!
🌻 We hope to build a vibrant garden community for students to share their plants and knowledge with each other because socially distancing doesn’t keep us from gardening! Check out our @aggiesgrow Instagram page to share your pictures with #aggiesgrowveggies or #aggiesgrow or participate in our competitions and giveaways and learn about new planting tips and tricks
Finally, if you are looking for someone to help answer garden questions or interact with a community of gardeners, join our Discord server (Register here).
